The Legend of Uncle Sammy's Day

A tradition the ParachutePrice gang has celebrated for years — and one we're sharing with you.

Every year, as the Fourth of July approaches, something wonderful happens at ParachutePrice.

Barnaby starts hanging stars on the Liberty Tree. Sally Jane pulls out the little scroll she reads to the kids every year — the one that starts "We hold these truths to be self-evident." Oliver dusts off his chalkboard and writes the date: July 4th, 1776. Dusty calls it what he always calls it: "the greatest upset in history."

And then Uncle Sammy arrives.

He always comes the same way — tricorn hat, patriotic coat, gift satchel over one shoulder and a rolled Declaration of Independence under his arm. The same warm smile. The same first words:

"Happy Uncle Sammy's Day, friends. Let's talk about the gift."

THE TRADITIONS

🌳 The Liberty Tree

Decorated with stars, mini flags, and eagles. Each family member hangs a tag answering: "What freedom am I thankful for this year?"

🔔 The Liberty Bell Ring

Everyone rings a hand bell four times. One ring for each word: life, liberty, happiness, pursuit.

🥂 The Gratitude Toast

At dinner, each person shares one freedom they're grateful for. No phones. Just voices.

🌟 The Firefly Promise

Before the fireworks, each child makes one promise to help their family, school, or community in the coming year.

For our gang, Uncle Sammy's Day has always been as natural as the fireworks that follow it. A day not just for celebration, but for gratitude. For remembering that freedom isn't a given — it was signed for, fought for, and handed forward as a gift from people who'd never meet us.

This year, we wanted to share it with you.
